Pokémon Go: The Pokémon about field research in May 2021

Every month, Pokémon Go changes the pocket monsters you can get for completing a Field Quest, and there are some interesting Field Quests in May 2021 that will appeal to the Shiny hunters among you. More than 30 pocket monsters can appear as Shiny in front of your Pokéball if you're lucky enough to complete the associated Field Research.

But even if you don't go for the Shiny ones, you'll be able to dust off all sorts of Pokémon in May 2021, some of which are also relevant to the metagame. The overarching theme this time around seems to be Fairy, as there are all sorts of Mon of that type. This fits in with the Illuminating Legends event, which brings in the likes of Xerneas and Yveltal, as well as the fairies Parfi and Fluffy.

Meta-relevance in field research

There's research, for example, which requires you to make three fabulous rolls in a row. This research is relatively rare, but it also earns you a Kaumalat, which can be transformed into the pseudo-Legendary Knakrack - and which will really gain combat weight once its meta evolution becomes available. You'll also want to keep an eye on the Fighting League field research, as completing it will earn you a reward encounter with Rotomurf, which can be evolved into the pat ground fighter Stalobor. And then there's the "Win a Raid" research, which rewards you with Tanhel, who in turn can become a powerful Metagross.

Aside from that, you can also earn Mega Energy for Mega Bibor and Mega Bisaflor. Some event-specific research will also earn you pocket monsters related to the recently ended Snap Celebration event. But that's expected to change on May 4, 2021, when the Illuminating Legends X event kicks off. Below, we've got the rundown on which Pokémon you'll be able to obtain via Field Research in May 2021. Remember, you'll get Galar Ponita in the May 2021 Research Breakthrough.
